A Gentle Beginning: Creating Space for Relationship with God

Virtual Church Gathering

Last night we gathered for the first LightHouse Online Fellowship ekklesia, and it was quietly beautiful.

There was no agenda to prove anything, no pressure to speak, no expectation to believe a certain way. Instead, we created a small, safe space to explore something very simple and very human:what does relationship with God actually look like in real life?

Not religion.

Not performance.

Just relationship.

What stood out most wasn’t what was said, but how the space felt. There was a sense of ease — of permission to arrive as we are. The conversations unfolded naturally, without being forced or managed, and what emerged was honest, thoughtful, and deeply personal.

As the gathering came to a close, something unexpected but very telling happened: the women didn’t want the conversation to end.

They asked if we could keep talking — not in a formal way, but in the way people do when something has touched a real place inside them. That alone felt like confirmation that this kind of space is needed.

Much of what was shared reflected experiences many people quietly carry: growing up around church, Sunday school, or Christian schooling; being taught about God in ways that felt heavy, confusing, or disconnected from real life; or having experiences that left them unsure whether faith was something they wanted to engage with again.

What became clear is that for many, the challenge isn’t God — it’s what they’ve been told God should look like.

Last night wasn’t about rewriting beliefs or convincing anyone of anything. It was about creating a soft landing place — somewhere people can explore the idea of connection with God outside of institutions, expectations, or past experiences that no longer feel aligned.

We spoke about relationship that is direct.

Personal.

Unmediated.

A relationship that doesn’t require having the right words, the right theology, or the right history — just honesty and openness.

That kind of conversation feels especially important for those who have a complicated relationship with the Bible or with religion, but who still sense there may be something more — something gentle, grounding, and real — waiting to be explored.

LightHouse Online Fellowship exists to make room for exactly this kind of exploration. Not to replace traditional church spaces, and not to define faith for anyone, but to offer a different entry point — one that honours lived experience, nervous systems, and personal discernment.

If this resonates with you — if you’ve ever felt curious about God but unsure where you fit — know that you’re not alone.

This is just the beginning.
